A Temporary Work Restraint System will provide a high level of safety for workers when operating in areas with unprotected fall hazards and leading edges.
Temporary Work Restraint Systems consist of components that restrict the workers movement within a safe working zone, preventing them from reaching the fall hazard.
When installed the Work Restraint system provides a high level of safety and where four user’s can operate in a safe working zone.
Single Point Anchorage
Single Point Anchorage’s can be effective when an operative has work task’s in small isolated area’s , particularly effective in window openings or on balconies.
Dual Point Anchorage for Horizontal Lifelines / Running Lines
Scissorsafe anchorage’s are linked to Temporary Horizontal Lifelines (also referred to as Running Lines ). The maximum length of the temporary lifeline is 20 metres, typically they will be positioned 3 metres from the leading edge running parallel to it which provides a safe working zone of 60 square metres.
Four workers have complete freedom of movement along the lifeline without needing to transfer from one anchor point to another. This allows them to pass equipment , materials and tools to each other or to any point in the safe working zone.
Temporary Fall Arrest
Fall arrest is the form of fall protection which involves the safe stopping of a person who is already falling, in other words, the system stops a worker’s fall that has already occurred, preventing impact at a lower level and protecting the fall victim by decelerating the rate of fall.
Fall Arrest may be considered appropriate where a worker needs freedom of movement to access a difficult to reach part of a structure eg an area where in Work Restraint the worker cannot align parallel to a running line, however Fall Arrest equipment also allows them to reach the point where a fall could occur.
A Fall Arrest system comprises an Anchorage connected to the user’s safety harness with a self-retracting lifeline, these function in a similar way to a car seat belt. A re-coiling main spring keeps a galvanised steel cable in light tension, allowing it to respond immediately in the event of a fall.
Overhead anchorage points reduce the angle of the users Fall Arrest Connecting Device, meaning that if he falls, the effects of a swing-fall or pendulum swing are greatly reduced.
When Scissorsafe is to be utilised as a Fall Arrest System, anchorage points should be pre-planned at regular intervals around the structures perimeters and leading edges so that the user can access an anchorage point above the work area.
The recommended limitations when working connected to an overhead anchorage is 30 degrees in a horizontal direction and fall arrest devices such as self-retracting lifeline, and Lanyards are unsuitable for operation at angles greater than this.
